Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. In some localities increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

More recent wind slabs can still be released in some cases, in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls on very steep slopes. In isolated cases the avalanches are medium-sized. Caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Rocky sunny slopes and base of rock walls: As a consequence of warming small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist avalanches are to be expected, especially on very steep slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Below approximately 1800 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. On steep sunny slopes below approximately 2500 m a little snow is lying. The snowpack is not distinctly layered. Shady slopes: The snowpack consists of faceted crystals. As a consequence of rising temperatures the snowpack will settle during the next two days. These meteorological conditions will foster a change towards better conditions on wind-loaded slopes.

Tendency

As a consequence of rising temperatures and very cloudy skies a sometimes unfavourable avalanche situation will develop.
