The wind slabs of the last few days must be evaluated with care and prudence at high altitude. As the temperature drops there will be a gradual decrease in the danger of moist and wet avalanches.
As a consequence of the strong wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The sometimes deep wind slabs can be released easily or naturally above the tree line, especially on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In particular on very steep slopes and at the base of rock walls medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming. Backcountry touring calls for experience and restraint.
Over a wide area over a wide area 30 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Monday above approximately 1500 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
The sometimes strong wind will transport the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. In some regions increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of the sometimes strong southwesterly wind.
