Avalanche Activity

CM for 05/04/22 New localised slab development possible on NW through N to North-Easterly aspects above 900 metres. Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Some new localised accumulations of moderately bonded windslab are possible on North-West through North to North Easterly aspects, above 900 metres. Areas greatest affected will be steep gully exits and coire headwalls. Some new cornice development is possible above slopes of the indicated aspects. Older areas of mature snow elsewhere will remain well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A slow-moving cold front will bring cooler conditions and snow showers to below summit levels, at around 800 metres. The North-Westerly moderate airflow will become ESE, SW, SSW then South as the front becomes established. Observed Weather Influences: Milder with precipitation falling as rain at all levels overnight and during the day. The showers were seldom more than just a drizzle, with some bright periods between. Winds have been fresh to strong North-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The old, mature and patchy snowpack although moist is generally well bonded and stable. Cooler conditions towards the end of the day are now helping to maintain snowpack stability in all areas. The avalanche hazard is Low.
