Avalanche Activity

The new snow represents the main danger.

Down to 1500 m snow will fall on Friday over a wide area. In some localities up to 30 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of snowfall and the wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The fresh snow and the wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2000 m. Avalanches can be released by small loads.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The snowfall will give rise as the day progresses to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack in particular on extremely steep slopes above approximately 2000 m.
