Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on north through east to southeast-facing slopes at upper elevations. The snowpack is thin in this area, and avalanches can break at the ground. Wind and snow on Thursday night and Friday will drift fresh slabs over weak layers making it easier to trigger an avalanche. Avoid steep slopes where you see evidence of recent wind loading such as smooth pillows of snow, fresh cornices, or a hard, hollow-sounding snow surface. You may not see signs of instability like cracking or collapsing before you trigger an avalanche. You can find safer travel options in wind-sheltered areas or below treeline.
