Triggering a large avalanche that breaks on old weak layers is the most dangerous issue. Layers of stiff, wind-drifted snow buried the weka layers. You will find these below ridgelines or cornices. Snow Saturday night and Sunday will add a thin layer of drifted snow to some of these same slopes. The thin slabs will be easy to trigger but result in just small avalanches unless they pull out deeper slides.

Weak, cohesionless snow is problematic on steep, shady slopes in wind-sheltered areas. Backcountry travelers have triggered long-running loose avalanches that entrained more snow than expected. They could sweep you into trees or stuff you into a gully.
