New snow and strong winds have created new pockets of wind slab. Backcountry travelers could trigger these slabs in steep, wind-loaded terrain. Some potential may remain for skiers and riders to trigger deep hard slab avalanches in isolated areas. Large triggers like snowmobiles, especially multiple snowmobiles on the same slope, are more likely to trigger these dangerous slabs which could have depths in excess of six feet.

    Deep hard slabs up to six feet in depth could be triggered by humans in isolated areas where weak layers of faceted snow persist near the base of the snowpack. These dangerous slabs could be triggered on slopes that have been crossed multiple times by other riders or skiers. If a member of your party gets stuck on a suspect slope, its best to keep all other sleds off of and out from underneath that slope.

    Pockets of surface slab up to two feet in depth could be triggered by backcountry travelers who venture onto very steep slopes and into cliff areas. These slabs have the potential to step down and trigger dangerous deep slab avalanches in areas with poor snowpack structure.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Snowfall intensity is expected to decrease overnight as the Pacific trough impacting the region moves to the east. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the low teens before rising into the upper teens during the day. Westerly to northwesterly ridgetop winds will decrease to 15 to 25 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE at the upper elevations in the Tetons on Tuesday. Backcountry travelers could easily trigger newly developed soft slabs up to two feet in depth. In the Togwotee Pass and Greys River areas, similar slides are possible to depths of six to twelve inches, and the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Some potential may remain for skiers and riders to trigger deep hard slab avalanches in isolated areas. Large triggers, such as snowmobiles or multiple people on the same slope, are more likely to trigger these dangerous slabs which could have depths in excess of six feet.
