In sintesi

Isolated pockets of hard slab exist at the upper elevations. While relatively small, these slabs pose a threat to backcountry travelers venturing into cliff areas, onto hanging snowfields, into very steep couloirs or other extreme terrain features. Mostly stable snow exists and avalanches are unlikely in less radical terrain and at the mid and lower elevations.

At the upper elevations, isolated pockets of hard wind slab, with depths of six to 18 inches, could be triggered by backcountry travelers in very steep, avalanche prone terrain. Once triggered, these slabs could quickly accelerate carrying skiers and riders over cliffs or significant distances in very steep terrain. On sunlit aspects, the potential to trigger these slabs will increase as the day warms.

Avalanche Discussion

Expect mostly clear skies on Monday. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the teens before rising into the upper 20s during the day. Northwesterly ridgetop winds will back to the west at 15 to 25 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW on Monday. At the upper elevations, isolated pockets of shallow hard slab could be triggered by backcountry travelers on very steep, avalanche prone slopes. While small, these slides have the potential to carry skiers or riders over cliff bands or into terrain traps.
