In sintesi

With scattered thunderstorms in the forecast we have disconnected our summit weather station to protect it from lightning damage. The Rendezvous Bowl, Raymer and mid-mountain weather stations at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort remain operational at this time. The freezing level dropped to about 8,000 feet after midnight and is expected to rise up to about 9,000 feet during the day. Rain has fallen on a wet isothermal snowpack that has then been covered by a warm insulating layer of new snow at the higher elevations. This scenario has created unstable conditions on steep snow covered slopes. The natural release of wet snow avalanches should be expected. These events could entrain large volumes of snow and become destructive. The potential for these slides to run long distances poses a threat to humans who travel and camp in the snow covered cirques, canyons and basins of the Teton Range.
