Strong west/northwest winds with gusts in the 50s mph combined with up to 8 inches of new snow have formed wind slabs on lee aspects above 8000 feet. New slabs will be over a foot thick and likely be triggered by the weight of a rider. The danger will be highest above 9000 on steep, rocky and wind loaded slopes. Small avalanches have the potential to step down and impact deeper weak layers, creating large avalanches. Very strong winds may have loaded slopes and terrain features at lower elevations than you might expect.
Strong winds from the road looking towards Two Ocean. Expect to find new wind slabs. Shooting cracks are a sure sign of instability.
