SC 23.02.23 Localised moderately bonded windslab on E to S aspects above 900m, mostly in Northern part of area. Av. Haz. Moderate

Forecast Snow Stability: On East to South aspects, localised accumulations of moderately bonded snow will initially be encountered mainly, but not exclusively, in wind sheltered locations above 900 metres on the Northern boundary mountains of the forecast area. Consolidation will start to take place during the day as the freezing level steadily rises towards summit level. The vast majority of locations will contain limited, stable snow. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A trace of snow above 500 metres during the early evening, followed by a dry day. Fresh Northerly winds overnight, moderating as they back to the West, before increasing again to fresh, as the day progresses. 500 metre freezing level overnight, steadily rising to reach 1200 metres by the end of the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Light to moderate snowfall overnight, followed by a dry morning. Intermittent precipitation falling as snow above 800 metres during the afternoon. Fresh North-North-Westerly winds. Freezing level around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Localised accumulations of unstable windslab are present in wind sheltered locations on mainly East to South aspects above 900 metres. Most areas have insignificant, shallow new snow lying on bare ground. Deeper accumulations are present on the higher mountains running along the Northern boundary of the forecast area. Where a snow-ice base is present deposits are moderately bonded. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
