Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will be deposited in wind sheltered areas. Greatest accumulations will be on West through North to North-East aspects above 900 metres. East aspects will also be affected. Fragile cornices will build above these aspects. The old snowpack will continue to consolidate and be generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be moderate to strong, West-South-Westerly at first, backing South-Easterly overnight before veering South-South-Westerly from around dawn. The freezing level will be around 500 metres until 05:00 when it will rise to 1000 metres before lowering during the afternoon to 800 metres. A period of heavy snow is expected after midnight, above 500 metres at first then above 1000 metres; more showery snow from mid-morning and above 900 metres. Observed Weather Influences: After a dry start, from late morning onwards there was light snowfall above around 600 metres. Winds were generally West-South-Westerly moderate increasing strong from late morning. The freezing level was around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh windslab has been deposited in wind sheltered areas, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Accumulations gaining depth are not extensive. The old snowpack has consolidated with the fluctuating freezing level and is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
