LO for 26/12. Fresh unstable windslab mainly on N-E-SE aspercts above 900m. Older snowpack stable. Moderate hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will continue to develop with greatest accumulations on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Wind sheltered locations such as gullies and corrie rims will be most affected. The older wet snowpack will consolidate in the cooler temperatures and become firm . The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Fresh West-North-West winds will back South-West and become very strong overnight and then veer North-West and ease slightly during the day. Showers falling as snow above 250 metres. The freezing level will be around 400 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Fresh South-West winds and showers falling as snow above 750 metres. The freezing level was dropping and was around 800 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Localised accumulations of unstable windslab are present in wind sheltered locations mainly on North to East aspects above 1000 metres but these are not extensive. Elsewhere the snowpack is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
