In sintesi

In some localities increase in danger of wet and gliding avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day.

Problemi valanghivi

  • Wet snow

    • 1,400 m–1,800 m
  • Gliding snow

    • 1,800 m–2,000 m

Avalanche Activity

In some localities increase in danger of wet and gliding avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day.

As a consequence of warming during the day mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible above approximately 1400 m. Mostly small gliding avalanches are possible on very steep grassy slopes. The old wind slabs can only be released in isolated cases. This applies in particular in extremely steep terrain at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example.

Snowpack Structure

Towards its surface, the snowpack is hard and its surface has a melt-freeze crust. This applies in particular in the south on very steep sunny slopes. The high humditiy will give rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 1500 m. Old wind slabs have bonded well with the old snowpack in all aspects. Individual weak layers exist deeper in the snowpack on steep shady slopes. Below approximately 1400 m only a little snow is lying. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard crust.
