Forecast Snow Stability: The existing well consolidated diminishing snow pack will continue to thaw at first and be generally stable. As the freezing level lowers the snow pack will firm up improving stability. Some new windslab deposits may begin to form on wind sheltered terrain on East to South-East aspects above 900 metres however these will be shallow and avoidable. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale strength South-West winds will lower in strength overnight veer through West becoming strong North-West by the end of the period. It will be dry at first with frequent precipitation falling as showers overnight, initially as rain then sleet or snow in the day. The freezing level will remain above the summits until the early hours when it will lower to around 800 metres. Observed Weather Influences: It has been a cloudy day with drizzle and poor visibility on the tops. The wind was very strong South-South-Weserly. The freezing level remained above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The wet snowpack has continue to thaw in the milder temperatures. It is consolidated and generally stable with only some isolated wet snow instabilities remaining on very steep terrain mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 750 metres. Ridge crests and wind exposed slopes have little or very shallow snow cover. The avalanche hazard is Low.
