Today, dry snow avalanches are unlikely except for isolated pockets of wind slab at the upper elevations. As the day warms, it may be possible for backcountry travelers to trigger small wet avalanches on steep solar terrain. In extreme terrain, these small wind slabs and wet slides could have severe consequences, especially if skiers and riders venture onto hanging snowfields or into cliff areas. Backcountry travelers should monitor the day’s warming and seek shaded terrain as the snow surface becomes damp.

Expect mostly clear skies overnight before cloud cover increases throughout the day on Saturday. Light snow showers could develop in the afternoon. Overnight lows in the mountains will be around 20 degrees before rising to near freezing in the afternoon. Southwesterly ridgetop winds will veer to the west and increase to 25 to 35 miles per hour.The snowpack is mostly stable, and the general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low on Saturday. Skiers and riders venturing into very steep avalanche terrain might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of slab above 9,000 feet. While small, these avalanches could have serious consequences on hanging snow fields and in cliff areas. A remote chance of triggering a large slab avalanche may persist in the Southwest Trails and Togwotee Pass forecast zones.
