In sintesi

Most terrain has LOW danger; however very localized areas of MODERATE danger exist in the Ogden area mountains, particularly along the Ogden Skyline. Shallow wind drifts may form this afternoon in localized areas.

Avalanches have been triggered with explosives at the mid and upper elevations at Snowbasin in recent days.

Wind drifts and new snow avalanches are increasingly stubborn and much of the snow structure is generally capped by recent rime and freezing rain. We'll need to keep an eye on this structure to watch for any development of weak faceted snow beneath the crusts that may affect avalanche conditions in the future.

Snow and Weather

Skies are clear with mountain temperatures in the low teens and upper single digits. Winds are west-northwesterly, blowing 10-15mph.

Snow surfaces suffered greatly with the freezing rain and rime from late week and look to be more impacted on the east side of the Eden valley.

For today, we may see some increasing cloud cover and cooling temps associated with a dry cold front. Winds will veer to the northeast and increase overnight. East canyon winds are likely to develop tonight into tomorrow.

Additional Info

With clear skies and cold temperatures, weak snow is sure to develop above and below these near-surface crusts and this may prove to make avalanche conditions interesting in the coming weeks.
