Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The old snowpack will be generally frozen, hard and stable, with small pockets of newer windblown snow in sheltered locations. Above 900 metres, areas of unstable windslab will be present on mainly South-West to North-West aspects. These accumulations are not widespread but will remain weakly bonded and lie on a fragile thin crust. Small cornices will remain present on steep Westerly aspects of the highest summits. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining dry with cloud clearing to be generally bright and sunny through the day. Feeling cold with Northerly winds easing, fresh to moderate. The freezing level staying around 300 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Dry and bright with cloud clearing through the day and periods of sunshine. Very cold around the summits, about minus 5 Celsius, with a light to moderate Easterly wind. ObservedSnowStability: The old snowpack is generally frozen, hard and stable, with small pockets of fresh windblown snow in sheltered locations.
