Avalanche Activity

Low avalanche danger, isolated avalanche prone locations on shady slopes!

The avalanche risk is low. In extremely steep gullies and on shady slopes above the tree line, the triggering of small slab avalanches cannot be completely ruled out. Avalanche prone locations may be difficult to recognise due to poor visibility and a thin covering of soft new fallen snow.

Snowpack Structure

Some new fallen snow is deposited on a crusted can form. Angular shapes weaken the snow layering. Some grassy slopes are snowed in again.

Weather Forecast

The light precipitation will subside in the evening. The night will bring precipitation-free weather, with some soft spells. On Sunday, the mountain peaks will become increasingly foggy from early in the morning and rain and snow will occur frequently in the morning. A few centimetres of new fallen snow will accumulate, especially from the main Alpine ridge southwards, but it will hardly snow at all in the Totes Gebirge or on the Dachstein. The snowfall level will fluctuate between valley locations and 1000 metres above sea level. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from the south. The temperature at an altitude of 1500 metres is around -2 degrees. The temperature at an altitude of 1000 metres will be around 1 degree. Moderate winds with gusts around 40 km/h from the south. Amounts of new snow between 10 and 15 cm are expected.

Tendency

On Monday morning, residual clouds and the last showers, increasingly sunny during the day. Sunny weather on Tuesday under the influence of intermediate highs. No significant change in the avalanche danger is expected.
