Wind and new snow: Wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain at intermediate and high altitudes.
Some snow will fall until the early morning in particular along the border with France and along the border with Switzerland. The northwesterly wind will transport the fresh and old snow significantly. As a consequence of low temperatures, snowfall and the strong wind, the snow drift accumulations will increase in size. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls dry slab avalanches are possible, even quite large ones. Avalanches can be released, even by a single winter sport participant or triggered naturally, caution is to be exercised in particular on wind-loaded slopes, and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Backcountry touring calls for caution and restraint.
Especially along the border with France and along the border with Switzerland 10 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the early morning. The foehn wind will transport the fresh and old snow significantly. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. As a consequence of low temperatures snowfall and the moderate to strong northwesterly wind, the snow drift accumulations will increase in size. The weather conditions will give rise to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack in particular at intermediate and high altitudes. In particular adjacent to ridgelines at high altitude snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
The weather will be cold. Strong foehn wind: By Friday further wind slabs will form in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain as well as above the tree line.
