Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Windslab will continue to develop with avalanches likely on West to North aspects above 800 metres. The greatest instability will be in steep locations such as gullies, corrie head walls and convexities. Cross loading will affect South-West and North-East aspects. Fragile cornices will continue to develop on the same aspects. Between 500 and 800 meters, moderately bonded windslab will develop on steep banks, convexities and burn lines. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snowfall above 300 to 400 metres on Gale force East-South-Easterly winds. The freezing level will be around 500 to 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Strong South-South-Easterly winds with precipitation falling as snow above 600 metres. After a rise in temperature overnight the freezing level fell from 1000 to 700 metres by late morning. ObservedSnowStability: New windslab has developed above 700 metres on Westerly to Northerly aspects, with cross loading affecting South-West and North-East aspects. The greatest instability is above 950 metres in steep locations such as coire head walls, gullies and convexities. Better stability between 800 and 950 metres where new accumulations are moderately well bonded. Below 800 metres the snowpack has been subject to thaw conditions; here stability is generally good. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
