You can trigger an avalanche where you find slabs of drifted snow on steep leeward slopes. Look for and avoid slopes greater than about 30 degrees with drifted pillows of snow below ridges, convex rollovers, and inside gullies. You can find isolated areas of problematic snow at lower elevations too. You might trigger a small slide in recently drifted snow, but any avalanche has the potential to gouge down to deeper weak layers and grow larger. Watch out for deeper weak layers on North, northeast, and east-facing slopes. You can find drifted snow on northeast through east to south-facing slopes at upper elevations.

Don't let fine weather on Monday lure you onto avalanche-prone slopes. The number of places you can trigger an avalanche is growing, and so is the size. Look to south, southwest, and west-facing slopes as safer options.
