In sintesi

The avalanche hazard is MODERATE at the higher elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). Backcountry travelers could trigger surface slabs to 16 inches in depth on steep lee slopes. The slabs developed on slick or weak old snow surfaces and are likely to be easily triggered by the presence of a single person on a slope. Shallow, loose snow sloughs are also likely on steep slopes and banks. At elevations, below 9,000 feet the hazard is LOW where people could trigger slides in isolated pockets in steep terrain like ravines.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE in the Tetons Tuesday. Cold temperatures will reduce the chance of naturally triggered slides but slabs to 18 inches in depth could be triggered on a wide range of aspects, particularly on upper elevation slopes subject to continued wind loading. The newer snow rests on crusts and weak snow surfaces and continues to be loaded Monday evening. The general avalanche hazard will be MODERATE in the Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails areas. Pockets of firm slabs to 16 inches in depth could be triggered by backcountry travelers on steep, lee slopes particularly near ridge crests.
