The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE at the high elevation and LOW below 9,000 feet this morning, and will increase as the day warms. Human triggered slab avalanches up to 18 inches in depth are still possible on steep wind loaded slopes. Cloud cover should moderate the potential for solar warming of the snowpack. However, if sunnier skies prevail, wet slides could be seen on sunlit aspects, particularly at lower elevations where overnight temperatures hovered near freezing.

A warm, moist Pacific storm system will bring periods of precipitation Monday night and Tuesday. The snow level will be near 7500 feet. Strong southwest winds will gust to sixty miles per hour at ridgetops. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be MODERATE at High elevations due to existing and increasing pockets of soft slabs on northern and lee exposures. The hazard will increase at Low and Mid elevations from LOW to MODERATE or greater due to rainfall warming and lubricating the snow, particularly in ravines and roadcuts. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
