Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls wind slabs formed. They are mostly easy to recognise. The fresh wind slabs can in some places be released, even by small loads in isolated cases, but they will be small in most cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Only isolated natural avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind, snow drift accumulations formed during the last few days, especially in high Alpine regions. The old snowpack is fairly homogeneous and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. This applies in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. In all aspects at intermediate altitudes less snow than usual is lying.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist. The wind will be moderate to strong.
