Avalanche Activity

The new snow represents the main danger.

Less snow than expected has fallen over a wide area. Above approximately 1700 m snow will fall on Saturday. Up to 30 cm of snow will fall until Sunday above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of snowfall and the wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form during the next three days. The fresh snow of the weekend and the wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. Some small to medium-sized moist avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming. Avalanches can be released by small loads.

Snowpack Structure

In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. As a consequence of snowfall and the moderate to strong southwesterly wind, a sometimes treacherous avalanche situation will develop on Sunday.
