Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will develop through the period mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Features such as gullies, corrie rims and ridge flanks will be most affected. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. The existing snowpack will refreeze and remain generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be gale force Westerly winds and snow showers, heaviest overnight. The freezing level will vary between 400 and 700 metres. Observed Weather Influences: There were gale force South-Westerly winds and occasional snow showers. The freezing level was around 850 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has consolidated overnight but weaknesses persist in deeper accumulations of recent snow mainly in gullies below 900 metres where the snowpack surface hasn\'t refrozen. At higher elevations a refreeze has improved stability. The avalanche hazard is Low.
