Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will consolidate overnight and refreeze during the day. Isolated and shallow areas of unstable windslab will develop during the day mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres with features such as gully tops, corrie rims and ridge flanks most affected. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong South-Westerly winds. Rain at all elevations in the evening with showers falling as snow down to around 500 metres during the day. The freezing level will drop from above the summits in the evening to around 600 metres by the end of the period. Observed Weather Influences: Fresh South-Westerly winds and occasional light snow showers. The freezing level was rising and around 800 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Isolated and shallow areas of unstable windslab are present mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres with features such as gullies, corrie rims and ridge flanks most affected. Some small fragile cornices are present above these aspects. The remaining patches of older snow are firm and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
