Avalanche Summary

Most slopes are generally safe from avalanches. The most likely place to trigger an avalanche is in small, isolated pockets of wind-drifted snow. More dangerous drifted snow will sound hollow or feel chalky and stiff. You will find these areas below ridgelines and near cross-loaded gullies or couloirs.
