Avalanche Discussion

A plume of Pacific moisture will move into western Wyoming Tuesday evening accompanied by westerly winds with 45 mile per hour averages at the ridgecrests. Snow accumulations in the mountains will be 8 to 10 inches by Wednesday morning and the snowfall will continue into the afternoon bringing several more inches. Mountain temperatures will rise into the upper twenties during the day. The General Avalanche Hazard will increase to HIGH Wednesday. New snow, strong winds, and warming temperatures will create easily triggered soft slabs two to three feet in depth on lee slopes. Natural or human triggered surface slides and/or the weight of the new snow will increase the potential to pull out deeper, hard slabs to six feet in depth in steep areas that have not yet slid.
