Avalanche Activity

Dry slab avalanches are the main danger.

The fresh snow of Friday as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 1800 m. In particular on very steep shady slopes the avalanches can penetrate even deep layers and reach large size in isolated cases. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and natural avalanches indicate the danger.

Snowpack Structure

The soft wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
