In sintesi

Avalanches will be unlikely on Thursday but remember isolated and extreme terrain can harbor pockets of unstable snow. Always observe the conditions in front of you and make decisions accordingly.

Avalanche Discussion

On Wednesday, I observed a widespread rain crust from 6000' to 8000' (upper limit of my tour). I did not find any signs of unstable snow. The sun/temperature did not have enough influence to bring on any kind of wet avalanche problems. I expect the same for most of the forecast zone on Thursday. This time of year the sun remains low in the sky and has less impact on the snow surface. However, lower elevation areas around Santiam Pass will experience warmer temperatures into the low 40's F on Thursday. There could be isolated wet loose avalanche activity resulting in small avalanches especially in steep terrain around rocks that heat up in the direct sun.
