Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Areas of windslab will be found in wind sheltered locations mainly on South-West through West to North aspects above 900 metres. Although not particularly extensive or deep, these areas will not be well bonded. On other aspects the snowpack will be firm, icy and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Turning colder with the freezing dropping to 400 metres. After a few overnight snow showers it will generally be dry. Easterly winds will back to the North-East and ease. Observed Weather Influences: Light snow overnight and during the morning petered out to leaver a generally dry afternoon. Strong winds were from the South-East. The freezing level was around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The old snowpack has frozen in the cool conditions and is hard, stable and icy. However, areas of fresh windslab were being deposited overnight and during the morning on mainly sheltered West to North aspects above 900 metres. Although not particularly extensive or deep, these deposits are poorly bonded. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
