Avalanche Activity

A clear night will be followed in the early morning by favourable conditions over a wide area, but the danger of wet avalanches will increase later.

Early morning: There is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. The conditions are generally favourable for ski touring. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase during the day. In particular on steep sunny slopes small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Naturally triggered avalanches and penetration of the old snow cover indicate the existence of a weak snowack. Backcountry tours should be concluded early. In the afternoon the weather will be partly cloudy in some regions.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 5 to 30 cm of snow has fallen since Sunday above approximately 2100 m. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will already soften in the late morning. This applies in particular on steep east, south and west facing slopes below approximately 2600 m, as well as on north facing slopes below approximately 2400 m. Below approximately 2200 m no snow is lying on south facing slopes.
