NC for 03/03/22 Localised and shallow windslab on NW to NE aspects above 950m. Older snowpack stable. Avalanche Hazard will be Low.
Forecast Snow Stability: Localised, shallow and generally avoidable accumulations of windslab will develop in wind sheltered locations mainly on North-West to North-East aspects above 950 metres. Gully tops and coire rims will be most affected. The older snowpack will remain well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Storm force South-Easterly winds overnight will be accompanied by light showers which will fall as snow above 700 metres. During the day, the South-Easterly winds will begin to ease and veer to the South. Snow showers will turn to rain at lower altitudes as the freezing level rises to the highest summit level by the end of the afternoon.
Observed Weather Influences: A dry day with sunny periods, cloud building from early morning. The winds were gale force South-Easterly, gaining strength during the day to become storm force by early afternoon. The freezing level was around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The older snowpack remains firm, well-bonded and stable on all aspects. Some localised, shallow accumulations of windslab are present on wind sheltered North-West to North-East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
