Tetons
Pericolo valanghe
In sintesi
At the upper elevations strong west-northwest to west-southwest winds have drifted new snow onto leeward aspects along the highest ridge lines. Isolated pockets of wind slab up to one foot in depth lie upon weak layers of faceted snow and hard old snow surfaces. These small slabs could be triggered by humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones with fresh deposits of wind blown snow. Caution is advised. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid and lower elevations.
Avalanche Discussion
A northwest flow on the back side of a deep low pressure system will bring a series of short waves troughs across the area. Skies will be cloudy with widespread light snowfall through Thursday. Several inches of accumulation are possible at the highest elevations, especially on favored western and northern slopes. Temperatures will rise towards zero. Winds will be westerly at 15 to 20 miles per hour.At the upper elevations (9,000 to 10,500) the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Westerly winds have formed pockets of wind slab up to 14 inches deep on leeward aspects. These shallow slabs could be human triggered in steep wind loaded avalanche starting zones. The general avalanche hazard below an elevation of 9,000 feet is expected to be LOW.
