An Avalanche Warning for the mountains of Western Wyoming is in effect through midnight on Friday. Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist. Natural activity is certain today as heavy snow continues to load a weak snowpack. Slabs at the high elevations will be the deepest where crown depths may reach three feet. Widespread activity is expected and at all elevations slides are likely to entrain faceted snow to the base of the snowpack. Early this morning the Cow of the Woods path in Hoback Canyon and the Beaver Slide path on the west side of Teton Pass slid naturally depositing snow on the highways and a slide on Glory Bowl was triggered with explosives. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended today.

Another system is to impact the area by Friday morning and is expected to continue through Saturday. Temperatures are to remain warm tomorrow with highs in the low thirties possible in the mountains. The general avalanche hazard will be HIGH on Friday. At all elevations and aspects natural avalanche activity is expected. Crown depths could reach up to three feet as snow accumulates during the day. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED. An Avalanche Warning is in effect for the period from 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 until Midnight on Friday December 30, 2011 for Yellowstone N.P. - Absaroka Mountains - Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains - Wind River Mountains East and West - Salt River and Wyoming Ranges - Snake River Ranges.
