Avalanche Activity

SC 15.01 Unstable windslab will continue to develop on NW, NE, E to S aspects above 850 metres. Cornices fragile. Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will continue to be deposited onto the existing localised accumulations. Areas most affected will wind sheltered locations such as gully tops and coire rims mainly on North-West through North-East to South aspects above 850 metres. Cornices will continue to develop and be fragile. On other aspects and at lower elevations the fresh snow cover will remain generally shallow and lie on a firm stable snowpack or bare ground. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight snow above 600 metres will ease, to give a generally dry day. The freezing level will lower during the day from 600 metres to around 200 metres by evening. Strong North-Westerly winds overnight will gradually reduce in strength to become moderate by end of the forecast period. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight snowfall eased to give a dry morning with some brighter spells. Further snow showers later in the afternoon. The freezing level was around 800 metres and the winds were fresh South-Westerlies. ObservedSnowStability: There is a covering of fresh snow above 600 meters on all aspects. Localised accumulations of unstable windslab are present on North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Areas most affected are wind sheltered locations such as core rims and gully tops, where the snow has gained depth and cornices are present. Wind exposed slopes are generally firm, icy and stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
