Even though avalanches are unlikely, continue to follow safe protocol:
- Make sure everyone in your group has a beacon, shovel and probe and the beacon is turned on.
- Only put one person at a time on steep slopes.
- Clear the runnout zone (don't regroup and hang out underneath steep slopes).
Snow and Weather
Current Conditions
I was on a higher elevation ridge on Thursday when the wind speeds peaked for the last 24 hours. The wind was steady with moderate speeds. It was very tolerable and wasn't noticeably drifting snow. A few flakes fell during the day not adding up to anything. Areas of soft snow are still out there mostly found on the north half of the compass. Overnight low temperatures were in the teens.
Mountain Weather
Today looks like a fairly decent day with clear skies, high temperatures getting into the mid 20s and light west wind to start. Wind will probably increase as well as cloud cover later today. This is ahead of a weak storm that will move through Friday and bring a trace to a couple of inches of snow. Nothing exciting. The weekend looks pretty nice with clear weather.
