Prior to entering terrain steeper than 30 degrees, evaluate the snowpack for weak layers of near-surface facets and surface hoar that may be buried at the new/old snow interface 2-3 feet down from the surface.
The most sensitive slopes may be at mid-elevations near water, such as creeks and lakes, where surface hoar was buried and areas remained cold during inversions that heated the upper elevations to the upper 40s. Upper elevations have shown near-surface facets as the propagating failure layer.
This problem will be hard to trigger, easier for snowmachines, yet if triggered, could be large: propagate /break wide and be unsurvivable.
***Likely trigger points would be where the slab is thin, near ridgelines, summits, near rocks or trees, on rollovers or convexities, and slopes that don't have support at the bottom where the slab is under stress.
