Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs above approximately 2200 m.

The wind slabs can still be released in some cases on steep northeast, southeast and southwest facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Caution is to be exercised adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, in particular along the border with France. Thus far only isolated mostly small dry and moist avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

Snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Various wind slab layers are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year in all altitude zones.

Tendency

As a consequence of rising temperatures and the mostly light wind, the snow drift accumulations will stabilise during the next few days.
