Snowpack
The top section of the snowpack contains weak layers that are still occasionally prone to triggering above approximately 2500 m. There are hardly any weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack that are prone to triggering.
New fallen snow and wind created wind slabs on Thursday. These are mostly small, but sometimes prone to triggering.
Gliding avalanches are still possible. This is mainly the case on east-, south- and west-facing slopes below approximately 2600 m and more rarely on north-facing slopes below around 2200 m. These avalanches may be large in regions with a lot of snow.
Weather forecast until Friday, 02.02.2024
During the first half of the night, a little more snow will fall in the northeast above approximately 1300 m. During the day, it will be mostly sunny in the west and south. On the northern flank of the Alps from the Bernese Oberland to Liechtenstein as well as in northern Grisons and Lower Engadine, it will become increasingly sunny above approximately 2000 m. Below that it will remain cloudy for longer.
New snow
Up to 5 cm of fresh snow is expected on the central and eastern parts of the northern flank of the Alps and in northern Grisons.
Temperature
At midday at 2000 m, between +2 °C in the west and -2 °C in the east.

After a mostly clear night, it was cloudy during the day and precipitation set in from the north. The snowfall level was between 1200 and 1500 m.
New snow
Until Thursday afternoon, the following amounts of fresh snow fell above approximately 1800 m:
Temperature
At midday at 2000 m, -1 °C in the north and +3 °C in the south.
Wind
Winds were moderate, sometimes strong at high altitudes, from the west to northwest.
Trend until Sunday, 04.02.2024
It will be sunny and mild in the mountains. In the high Alpine regions and in the south, strong northwesterly winds will blow in places.
The danger of dry avalanches will decrease. Gliding avalanches are still possible.
