In sintesi

Treat wind loaded and cross loaded terrain with caution.

The persistent weak layer is still around in isolated areas, avoiding large slopes and overhead is advisable.

Problemi valanghivi

  • Wind Slabs

    • Alta quota
    • Limite del bosco
    • Sotto il limite del bosco
    Probabilità
    Possible
    Dimensione
    1–2

Small pockets of windslab have developed in immediate lee features.

  • Persistent Slabs

    • Alta quota
    • Limite del bosco
    • Sotto il limite del bosco
    Probabilità
    Unlikely - Possible
    Dimensione
    1.5–3

At 60 to 100 cm deep, it can be most likely triggered on steep roll-overs in wind-sheltered terrain around treeline.

Confidence

Moderate

  • Uncertainty is due to the fact that persistent slabs are particularly difficult to forecast.

Avalanche Summary

On Wednesday a small (size 1) human triggered avalanche was reported. It noted that the 20cm of snow failed over a crust.

If you are getting out in the backcountry, consider sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN)!

Snowpack Summary

30 cm of recent snow has fallen over a crust that is present up to 1400 m.

In sheltered areas, a layer of weak, feathery surface hoar crystals is buried about 75 cm deep.

At 1100 m and below a prominent crust is just below a skiff of fresh snow and makes for challenging travel.

The snowpack is around 150 cm deep at treeline, tapering quickly with elevation.

Weather Summary

Friday Night

Sunday
Mix of sun and clouds. 4 cm of snow. 30 km/h southeast ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -17 °C.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Approach lee and cross-loaded slopes with caution.
  • Surface hoar distribution is highly variable. Avoid generalizing your observations.
