Avalanche Activity

NC for 12/02 Mostly good stability, isolated areas of moderately bonded windslab on very steep NE to SE slopes above 1000m Haz Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: Weaknesses in isolated areas of older windslab will persist on North-East to South-East aspects above 1000 metres, and will be confined to very steep locations such as coire rims, scarp slopes and ridge flanks. Remaining cornices above these aspects will be unstable. Outwith these locations the snow will remain well bonded with greatest amounts to be found on North-East to South-East aspects above 900m. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Very strong to gale force West-South-West winds will become South-West overnight and for the remainder of the period. No precipitation is forecast, the freezing level will be above the summits. Observed Weather Influences: A mostly dry day with the freezing level above the summits, strong Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is slowly consolidating at all levels and is mostly firm and stable. Isolated areas of weaker moist windslab can still be found on North through East to South-East aspects above 1000 meters and are mainly confined to steep locations such as coire rims, scarp slopes and ridge flanks. The avalanche hazard is Low.
