LO for 8.2. New unstable windslab on N to E aspects above 800m. Some fresh cornices. Old snow refrozen. Avalanche Hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight the existing saturated snowpack will freeze and consolidate. Fresh unstable windslab will develop mainly on North to East aspects above 800 metres. Amounts are not expected to be substantial and will mainly affect corrie rims and gully tops. Fragile cornices will start to build above these aspects. Windward aspects will become re-frozen and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: West-South-West winds overnight will remain strong throughout the period, backing South-Westerly during the morning. Rain will ease this evening, then light snow showers will continue throughout the period. Freezing level will drop sharply this evening and remain around 600m throughout the day. Observed Weather Influences: Freezing level rose above the summits by mid morning. Frequent rain showers throughout the day. Strong South-West summit winds. ObservedSnowStability: The existing windslab on North through East to South-East aspects above 900m was rapidly becoming saturated. Significant wet snow instabilities were present within this windslab. Cornice debris was also noted in Corrie na Ciste. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
