Avalanche Activity

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep slopes above approximately 3500 m.

The older wind slabs can in some places be released by small loads, but they can reach medium size, in particular on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Especially on very steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas mostly small natural dry avalanches are possible. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 10 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m. The old snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases. Less snow than usual is lying. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack.

Tendency

In extremely steep terrain more natural dry avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small.
