In sintesi

Sensitive cornices and shallow wind slabs will be found on lee slopes near ridge crests. Give cornices plenty of space and steer around start zones steeper than 35 degrees where windblown snow has accumulated. At lower elevations, loose wet slides will be possible as temperatures rise and snow becomes rain.

    Shallow wind slabs will linger on lee slopes above about 6500'. Recent observations from around Mt Hood suggest that slabs around 3-6" thick are still present where windblown snow has accumulated.  These slabs are generally soft and are most likely to be found on lee slopes near ridgelines and under cornices. Use inconsequential wind loaded test slopes to examine the bond of wind transported snow before committing to larger open slopes. These avalanches are unlikely to be large, but use caution near terrain traps like creeks and above cliffs where even a small slide could have big consequences. Cornices have grown substantially over the last two weeks and may fail easily. Give cornices plenty of space and avoid traveling underneath them.

    Rising temperatures and rain at some elevations will make it possible to trigger loose wet avalanches. If you notice temperatures above freezing, wet snow surfaces, roller balls beginning to form, or trees dripping, you may be able to trigger loose wet avalanches. This will be most likely at middle and lower elevations and on steep slopes. If you see evidence of weakening snow surfaces, avoid slopes steeper than 35 degrees and unsupported slopes such as those above cliffs and creeks.

A warm and wet storm is approaching the Northwest Monday night. Avalanche danger will rise dramatically Tuesday.
