In sintesi

While unlikely, you should still avoid lingering beneath steep, rocky terrain above you that could still shed slabs of snow. Most shedding snow has likely already run its course during this prolonged warm period, and the greater hazard is likely challenging travel on icy surfaces.

Avalanche Discussion

Someone has got our weather track stuck on repeat. Expect yet another day of inversion temperatures and a nice diurnal freeze-thaw cycle. It has been over four days since any notable wet avalanches or significant shedding events. That said, it's still a good habit not to linger beneath rocks or cliffs warming in the sun that may still shed snow down on you.

Long, clear nights and cold easterly flow have both helped to limit daytime warming and create robust surface crusts. NWAC forecasters near Lichtenberg on Sunday found a solid overnight refreeze of snow surfaces with sunny mid-elevation slopes softening nicely by midday. Cornices and rock slabs have all melted back significantly. Although a few steep cliffs hold snow, there were no recent avalanches observed. You should expect travel over icy surfaces, especially in the morning and on shady slopes. Make sure to bring appropriate equipment to prevent long sliding falls.

Avalanche professionals and NWAC forecasters reported a widespread wet avalanche cycle on the 12-13th with a significant rain event. Most avalanches were large, and some ran long distances, gouging through much of the recent storm snow. While many rock features released large chunks and glide avalanches, no crowns or slab avalanches were reported.
