At the mid and upper elevations the snowpack is 20 to 30 inches deep. This snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely. At the lower elevations the snow is less than a foot deep and there is no avalanche danger. Grand Targhee Resort is closed to uphill skiing while the resort prepares for a Friday opening.

Conditions will remain dry on Thursday with some mid and high level clouds. Cloud cover will increase during the evening hours. Temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s tonight and rise into the 30s and 40s during the day. Westerly winds will be light at 10 to 15 miles per hour. At the upper elevations our early season snowpack is 15 to 30 inches deep and mostly stable. Avalanches are unlikely and therefor the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Isolated areas of instability may persist at the highest elevations in very steep terrain that faces north. Snow depths decrease quickly below an elevation of 8,500 feet. Avalanche hazards are not a concern below that elevation.
