Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes where you find more than about a foot of new snow resting on older weak snow. On some slopes, at the highest elevations of the Grand and Battlement Mesas, these avalanches could grow large enough to bury you. You can find safer travel options by sticking to areas where the new snow fell on bare ground or where you find less than about 12 inches of new snow.
